When full replacement is the right call
Five conditions trigger replacement instead of repair. One: age over 20 years on .025 aluminum, or over 35 on .032. Two: visible sag in multiple runs that re-hanging cannot correct because the fascia is compromised. Three: rust-through, hail dents, or impact damage across the system. Four: undersized 2x3 downspouts on a two-story home or steep-pitch roof that overflow every heavy rain. Five: sectional gutters with sealed lap joints that have failed at multiple seams. Any one of these conditions on its own justifies replacement; two or more makes it mandatory.

Material choice: aluminum, copper, or steel
Aluminum at .032 inch is the right call for 90 percent of Houston homes. It is dimensionally stable, will not rust, comes in 28 baked-enamel colors, and lasts 25 to 35 years for $8 to $14 per linear foot installed. Copper is the architectural upgrade for premium homes; it patinas naturally, lasts 50 to 100 years, and runs $25 to $35 per linear foot. Galvanized steel is heavier and stronger than aluminum but requires repainting every 7 to 10 years and rusts at any scratch; we install it only when matched to an existing steel system.
