Micro-mesh gutter guard installation by Invictus Exterior in Houston

Open gutters under Houston pine and oak canopy fill within 6 to 10 weeks. The clogs cause overflow that rots fascia, soaks foundations, and damages siding. Quality gutter guards reduce cleaning from 4 to 6 times per year to once every 2 to 3 years and eliminate the secondary water damage. The wrong gutter guard (foam inserts, cheap plastic screens) clogs faster than open gutters and is worse than nothing. This page covers the four guard systems we install and which Houston neighborhoods need which type.

Gutter guard systems we install

Micro-mesh stainless steel. Our default. Stainless steel mesh over an aluminum frame, mounted to the front lip of the gutter. Filters out pine straw, oak debris, and shingle granules. Brands: LeafFilter, Gutterglove, Raptor.

Reverse-curve (surface tension). Solid hood that uses water adhesion to pull water around the curve and into the gutter while debris falls off. Works well for pine straw. Brands: Gutter Helmet, LeafGuard.

Stainless mesh screen. Coarser mesh than micro-mesh, lower cost. Good for oak and sycamore debris, less effective on pine straw. The mid-tier choice for budget-conscious projects under hardwood canopy.

What we do not install. Foam inserts (clog with debris and rot). Cheap plastic snap-on screens (warp, fall off, and clog faster than no guard at all).

Which guard for which Houston neighborhood

Heavy pine canopy (The Woodlands, Kingwood, Atascocita, parts of Spring): reverse-curve or premium micro-mesh.

Mature oak canopy (Heights, West University, Bellaire, River Oaks): premium micro-mesh or stainless mesh.

Mixed canopy production homes (Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land, Pearland): standard micro-mesh.

Open lots with minimal canopy: stainless mesh is sufficient and saves cost.

When to replace gutters before installing guards

Adding guards to undersized or sagging gutters wastes money. We inspect existing gutters first and recommend replacement (typically 6 inch oversized aluminum with 3x4 downspouts) when the existing system is undersized for the roof area, sagging or separating, or has rotted fascia behind it. Guard installation on a properly-sized new gutter system delivers the full performance benefit.

Stainless mesh micro-filter

Reverse-curve for heavy pine

Gutter Helmet and LeafGuard for The Woodlands and Kingwood.

Sized for your gutter profile

5 inch K-style, 6 inch K-style, and half-round options.

Lifetime no-clog warranty

Available on premium systems with annual inspection.
